PartyPoker Starts New Hit Or Run Promotions - 29th January 2010

One thing PartyPoker has done extremely well in its history is provide some of the best promotions for its customers. With its popular Cash Machine set to end on January 31st, PartyPoker had to come up with another promotion that would continue to capture the interest of its players. That new promotion, called Hit Or Run, will start on February 1st.

The Hit Or Run promotion gives players an opportunity to earn over $10,000 per day throughout the month of February. Players on PartyPoker already earn PartyPoker points that can be used to enter tournaments, buy items in the PartyPoker Store, and turn the points into cash. The Hit Or Run promotion is offered as another way that players can use their PartyPoker points.

For every 20 PartyPoker points a player earns on their real money tables, PartyPoker will give players $1 that they can take to play Hit Or Run. Once a player enters into the Hit Or Run arena, they are dealt two hole cards to play heads-up against the PartyPoker system. If a player wins the first hand, that $1 is doubled and the player is given the option of playing again, or taking another “Hit.” The game continues until the player is beaten in the game or the player decides to “Run” with what they have won.

Players can earn up to ten entries per day to play the PartyPoker Hit Or Run game. If a player is able to win ten straight heads-up hands, they will take away $1,024. If a player does this ten times per day and wins every hand, that player would walk away with $10,240. Of course, a player can, at any time, opt to take whatever money they have earned by hitting the “Run” button.

The new Hit Or Run promotion is simply the latest offering that PartyPoker has for its players. Currently, PartyPoker is also running satellites for entries into February’s World Poker Tour (WPT) L. A. Poker Classic and Celebrity Invitational. PartyPoker also offers its popular $1 million Guaranteed the first Sunday of each month and has a $300,000 Guaranteed every other Sunday when the Million Guaranteed isn’t running.

PartyPoker continues to reign among one of the leaders in the online poker industry. Up until 2006, it was the largest poker room in the industry, but the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in 2006 forced the parent company of PartyPoker, Party Gaming, to pull the plug on players from the United States. Since that time - and catering to players outside of the U. S. only - PartyPoker has slipped behind such sites as PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, which still continue to accept American action. PartyPoker vies against the iPoker Network for third place in the online poker industry, according to PokerScout.com. (Credit: Poker News Daily)

Aussie Casino Gossip From The Media Man, by Greg Tingle - 27th January 2010

Crown Casino is in a jovial mood this week, with celebs, big time players and whales in town for the annual Aussie Millions. Annette "Annette 15" Obrestad has already pocketed $200,000 AUD at the tables, while Dan Shak won over a million quid via the $100,000 Challenge, but that's small change compared to what Mr James Packer and co are making from all the action at Crown Limited.

The bean counters are said to be extremely pleased.

The poker may have focused considerable attention on Southbank, where US hedge fund manager Daniel Shak week earned $1.2 million by thrashing legendary player Phil "The Tiger Woods Of Poker" Ivey, but it's a filing from The Royal Bank of Scotland that has Crown chief executive David Courtney in a festive spirit. Not sure about the Queen Of England however, who would have heard the rumours with a push to change the Australia flag.

According to RBS, gambling revenues held up well in 2009 despite the global downturn, and RBS's analysts ''expect them to remain resilient in 2010''.

Such is the health of the sector, RBS expects Packer's Crown Casino to make ''accretive acquisitions'' during 2010.

''Balance sheets across the gaming sector are generally in good shape, with Crown and Tatts Group the best placed,'' states the report. ''We also believe mergers and acquisitions will become a key theme in the sector in 2010, with Tabcorp and Centrebet the most likely targets.

''Crown and Tatts are the two companies with the most significant balance sheet capacity for acquisitions in the sector.''

RBS highlighted Tabcorp (owners of Star City Casino and Conrad Jupiters on the Gold Coast) as the pick of the stocks, due to the ''potential for earnings upgrades based on operational improvements in the casino division''.

The news isn't so good for Tatts Group, the placed third of Melbourne's major gambling companies, which RBS said was its ''least preferred stock'', due to its high price-earnings ratio and the ''near-term earnings headwinds'' of lottery jackpots and the end to stimulus spending.

There is still considerable risk hanging over the industry. According to the most recent data, from 2007, poker machines make up 73 per cent of gambling turnover in Australia. Casinos contribute 11 per cent, wagering on racing and sports events 13 per cent and lotteries just 3 per cent.

Those highly lucrative poker machines are under attack from the anti-gambling lobby - take a walk through Crown and you will see responsible gambling warning signs posted on walls and machines as the industry tries to show it can self-regulate - and in October, the Productivity Commission released its draft recommendations on gambling regulation. The final findings are to be released this February.

Those recommendations include $20 cash limits on machines, moving ATMs further from gaming rooms, setting a maximum bet of $1 per spin, and limiting machines to 120 spins per hour. All would have a dramatic impact on the big players.

In a bit of a did, Collins & Spencer couldn't help but note a subtle crack at management of Crown and Tatts in the RBS report. ''The recent negative track record of both Tatts and Crown for overseas acquisitions may see both companies look to focus their respective growth ambitions on the Australian market, where they have their core competency,'' stated RBS.

The recent track record of James Packer's Crown includes the core incompetency of blowing $1.7 billion over the past two years on US and British casino adventures. (James, it's RBS that says that, not the Media Man down the road at Bondi Beach).

Sydney's Star City Casino is said to be getting things back to normal, after the unions recent high profile industrial strike action, is looking for return on investment of their $500 in the redevelopment of what was once known as "The Pyrmont Workers Club", a negative term for the once ho hum presence of Star City. The sports bar which is worth millions contains $100,000s worth of audio and visual equipment, some of which is said to have got knocked around a bit in the recent Hulk Hogan - Ric Flair staged attack at the casino. Australian casinos only wish more of the attacks were staged as apposed to being real. Australian bricks and mortar casinos, Star City, Crown Casino and Burswood have all suffered more attacks and violent incidents on premise (or in the surrounding areas outdoors) than they care to mention over recent years. Little wonder online casinos continue to give Australian land based casinos a run for their money, a trend unlikely to be curbed by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's crackdown on pokies in casinos, clubs and hotels.

Not to be outdone the igaming sector sector continues to make waves in the Asia Pacific and Australian region in a week that started with commencement of The Great Australian Internet Blackout protest. A number of media, poker and gaming related websites are taking part in the week long protest and approximately 200 sites have signed up, with approximately 1000 expected to sign up this week (after the effects of a Aussie Day beer piss up die down and everyone gets back to work).

PartyGaming signed up Aussie poker icon Tony G, flying the flag for Noble Poker (and soon PartyPoker), and Tony is expected to bring the fight to fellow Aussies Shane Warne and Jeff Fenech (888 - Pacific Poker) and 2005 WSOP champ, Joe Hachem. Party's also said to be getting into spread betting, with a deal on the go involving London Capital Group that may have branding and marketing considerations for PartyMarkets, but that's a wait and see situation. Party are also rumored to be exploring pro wrestling themed online slot games starting with the late, great, Andre The Giant, with a potential tie in to Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair. Sounds like a sure winner for the Australian rabid wresting and gambling fans.

European companies still see Australia as a land of opportunity, despite that dam internet filter and blacklist looming over Australian soil. Maybe the igaming firms have decided to get into Australia before the filter hits. PokerStars have signed up gaming account manager and PR queen bee, Sara Waller. Sara will be most likely working the Singapore - Australia route, with a bit of action out of Surfers Paradise. Our spies tell us Sara may be in a role similar to Rebecca Liggero's from Bodog fame, but no billionaire on her arm (not yet anyway).

Microgaming and Viper powered online casinos Roxy Palace and Casino Splendido have embarked on an online campaign into the Asia Pacific. Just how well they stack up again Microgaming's Captain Cooks Casino, an Aussie favorite, remains to been seen, but the new entrant has the new HellBoy online slot game while Captain Cooks does not (due to technical reasons).

We of course launched own www.mediamanaustralia.com website in an Art Of War maneuver to mark the Great Australian Internet Blackout. The site spots a modest amount of gaming and igaming coverage, however it covers in the region of a dozen different sectors, and is certainly ramping up on political content (thanks to hot fodder from "our friend" Senator Stephen Conroy and his master of the universe, Kevin Rudd). We only own 2 com.au websites out of fleet of 20 something sites, so what's all the fuss about Sirs Rudd and Conroy.

Dikshit sold 38.8 million shares at a price of 270 pence per share through his Crystal Ventures Ltd. vehicle, according to a statement distributed today via press release service, Business Wire.

The founder sold two-thirds of his stake in October. Dikshit wanted to "move away from the whole issue and industry of PartyGaming," his spokesman Shimon Cohen said at the time.

In December 2008, Dikshit pleaded guilty to illegal Internet gambling in the U.S. and agreed to cooperate with the Justice Department in its probe of the company. He paid $300 million in fines and is scheduled to be sentenced this year.

PartyGaming fell as much as 20.5 pence to 273 pence, and traded at 275.2 pence, at 8:06 a.m., in London, giving the company a market value of 1.12 billion pounds ($1.82 billion).

The company is widely regarded as the world's leading igaming company and is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

They are currently looking to return to the United States in a full capacity. PartyGaming have ramped up U.S exposure via their purchase of the World Poker Tour and have recently made a splash "down under" in Australia with their signing of poker professionals, Stewart Scott (2009 Aussie Millions champion) and Tony G (now representing Party's Noble Poker). Mike Sexton is global brand ambassador of Party's World Poker Tour.

PartyPoker is traditionally the companies most successful and popular brand, however in recent years PartyCasino.com has grabbed much of the news media and igaming media headlines with their exclusive Hollywood blockbuster themed games licensed from the likes of Marvel Entertainment, Paramount Pictures, Frank Sinatra Enterprises, StudioCanal, Edgar Rice Burroughs, MGM, Activision, Hasbro and International Game Technology.

PartyGaming have won a vast array of gaming and business awards and commendations including from iGaming Review, iGaming Business, Casino News Media and Media Man.

PartyGaming hits the jackpot - 22nd January 2010

Gambling on a possible £2bn-plus merger in the world of online gaming proved a favourite pastime for excited punters.

Shareholders of PartyGaming hit the jackpot as the shares shot up to 297.7p and closed 16.7p higher at 2851/2p after Bwin, Europe's biggest online betting and gaming group, revealed it is in merger talks with the Gibraltar-based online gaming giant.

Bwin said the talks are 'no indication' that there will be a merger while PartyGaming grudgingly added it is in talks with a 'number of companies' about consolidation and discussions are at 'a preliminary stage'. However, as far as professional speculators are concerned, it would be a marriage made in heaven and a deal must be on the cards.

PartyGaming was once the most valuable publicly traded gambling stock in the world when it was worth £6.4bn in August 2005, after floating at 115p in June of that year. The US Department of Justice's clampdown on internet gambling in 2007 then trashed its valuation as did some controversial share sales by its founder directors.

It is now back on the recovery track and a recent statement revealed that trading since the end of September 2009 has been solid, with a return to sequential revenue growth. It has also announced an exclusive five-year agreement to provide an online gaming platform for poker and casino games in Denmark for Danske Spil.

Back in November all the industry gossip was about a possible Bwin offer for 888 Holdings, 4.9p better at 116p. 888 appears a harder nut to crack as brothers Avi and Aaron Skaked own 50pc of the equity through family trusts. Another pair of brothers, Shay and Ron Ben-Yitzhak, control a further 11pc.

PartyGaming's PartyPartners To Attend London Affiliate Conference (LAC); PartyGaming and industry interest in 'Casino Jack' documentary, by Greg Tingle - 20th January 2010

The world's leading listed igaming company, PartyGaming, will have numerous staff and management attending the annual London Affiliate Conference (LAC) that kicks off on the 28th of this month, and runs to the 31st.

The famous Old Billingsgate Market is the venue for the event which expects thousands of people to attend over the 4 day igaming fest.

Industry buzz predicts that PartyGaming, PartyCasino.com, PartyPoker.com and Club World Poker Tour are all strong chances to pick up an iGB Affiliate Award or three.

PartyPartners is the LAC's Platinum sponsor, however it needs to be noted that the event has in the region of 80 sponsors, so nothing untoward is expected and it should be a clean "fight".

The event is one of the world's best opportunities to network with the leading people and companies in the gaming and igaming industry.

Some of the topics expected to be hot include "what's next", standing out from the pack, game innovation and "Avatar" type technology, potential return to the U.S. market, expansion into new frontiers, like Australia, and a bit of gossip as to what to expect in upcoming award winning documentary, "Casino Jack".

Representatives and insiders from the world's 4 continents will be attending, and Media Man looks forward to breaking news via the Asia Pacific - Australian connection.

The smart money says PartyGaming to pick up at least a couple of awards, not a virgin in the slightest to bragging rights, and don't be surprised to see a new game or two launched.

It's going to be a heck of a party at London's Old Billingsgate, and you can bet Media Man and Casino News Media will have a massive scoop. Stay tuned.

Poker's golden boy - The Age - 20th January 2010

THE Aussie Millions poker tournament brings many characters to Melbourne, but few would have thought Crown would become a centre for trading in gold and silver futures for two weeks.

Among the contenders for the Aussie Millions is Daniel Shak, who operates a New York-based hedge fund called SHK Asset Management that trades exclusively in futures contracts in precious metals.

Shak is one of the few men in the world to specialise in precious metals futures, and he trades with the biggest gold and metal producers. They hedge using contracts that are traded through the New York Mercantile Exchange, which is now owned by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

''The world's biggest gold and silver producers and users trade these contracts, and I am one of a select few market makers. I am one of the very few people willing to sit down and make a market in any spread transaction. It's a niche market, but it's my niche.''

Due to a quirk in international airline scheduling, Shak is in Melbourne for two weeks, to avoid being in the air and unable to trade while markets are open.

''The work hours in Melbourne for me are midnight until 6am, when the markets in New York are open,'' Shak says. ''I then sleep to midday, and play poker.''

Shak started SHK in 2002. ''I can say 2008 was a difficult year. We were down about 12 per cent but most of my investors stuck by me,'' he says. ''In 2009 I was up about 20 per cent, so that was a good year.''

So what does Shak think about the gold price? ''Never try to pick the price of gold,'' Shak says. ''History shows it takes a year to go up, and three days to go down. Same with silver. That said, right now I'm marginally long.'' (Credit: The Age)

2010 WSOP Rules Permit Twittering at the Table, by Tom Jenkins - 17th January 2010

The official rules for the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) were handed down this week, with tournament organizers adopting a cell phone rule that permits text messaging and Twittering at the table.

All cell phones must be turned off during play. However, as the WSOP regulations note, “Players not involved in a hand (cards in muck) shall be permitted to text/email at the table, but shall not be permitted to text/email any other player at the table.” Twittering of chip counts and memorable hands were staples of the 2009 WSOP, when the social media outlet exploded in popularity. Even poker legends like 10-time bracelet winner Doyle Brunson have become engulfed in Twitter, with “Texas Dolly” now able to spit out additional blonde jokes while seated at the table of any 2010 WSOP event.

Any players who wish to talk on their cell phones must be at least one table length away from their seats while gabbing. Meanwhile, the WSOP logo policy in 2010 will remain the same as it was in 2009. No logo will be permitted that promotes drugs, handguns, lotteries, obscene material, pornography, libel, or “advertises any online gaming site that conducts business with U.S. residents.” Nearly every logo shown on ESPN television cameras in 2009 featured the dot-net version of the site’s URL. Meanwhile, Everest Poker, which had sponsored pro Antoine Saout at the final table of the 2010 Main Event, serves as the on-felt sponsor of the tournament series. Everest Poker does not accept players from the United States.

Posters on TwoPlusTwo were quick to critique the 2010 WSOP rules, which incorporated revisions made by the Tournament Directors Association. One point of contention concerned late registration. The rule reads, “Any player registering for an event after all initial tables allocated for that tournament have been filled will begin play at the start of the subsequent level.” In the WSOP Main Event, for example, that could mean a player sitting out as long as two hours, the length of one blind level.

Fans of UB.com poker bad boy Phil Hellmuth may see the 11-time bracelet winner show up on time in 2010 thanks to a rule that governs “no shows,” players who fail to show up by the start of the third level of play. The rule mandates, “These players will have their chips removed from play and will not be eligible to participate in that event. The buy-ins for ‘no shows’ will be removed from the prize pool and placed on safekeeping in that player’s name at the main WSOP registration cage after the second level of play.”

Some posters on TwoPlusTwo questioned whether the “no show” clause meant that if a player saw they had a tough table draw, they could simply un-register by not showing up. Member “pineapple888” explained the dilemma: “It seems like you can register, wander by your table an hour into the event, and if there are too many pros/tough players for your liking, or there aren't enough chips on the table, or whatever (no hot chicks at the table or railbirding), just wander away and claim your refund later without penalty.”

The action gets underway in the 2010 WSOP with the annual $500 buy-in Casino Employees No Limit Hold’em event on May 28th. Also to be held on that date is the brand new $50,000 buy-in Player’s Championship, an Eight-Game mix of Limit Hold'em, Omaha High-Low Split Eight or Better, Seven Card Razz, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud High-Low Split Eight or Better, No Limit Hold'em, Pot Limit Omaha, and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball. It takes the place of the $50,000 HORSE Championship, which drew a meager 95 players in 2009 after having 148 in 2008.

Also new on the docket in 2010 is a $25,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event that starts on June 30th. Many in the industry have questioned WSOP officials introducing a richer No Limit Hold’em tournament than the Main Event, whose buy-in is only $10,000. Nevertheless, the $25,000 Six-Handed contest is sure to attract some of the top names in the worlds of live and online poker.

Crown Casino Aussie Millions Poker Championship kicks off, by Greg Tingle - 16th January 2010

Melbourne, if not the whole of Australia, has poker fever, thanks to casino king James Packer's brainchild, "Aussie Millions".

Media Man long time friend, associate and eyes and ears of the industry, Keith "Bendigo" Sloan, tipped us off that it would be huge and he was right on the money.

Let's start with some big picture stuff.... poker has been widely acknowledged in a court of law as primarily a game of skill. Sure, there's some luck involved, but over time on measured tests, the skill factor comes through. This is a key point in some of the arguments put forward by the Poker Players Alliance. Folks, professional poker is big business and is also a form of sports tourism, something that's been picked up on by the Victorian government, but something Australia's Labor government is still trying to grasp. Maybe it will be covered in the Aussie version of "Casino Jack"!

Let it be said from the get-go that Crown's Aussie Millions gives some much needed balance into the news media coverage of Australia's casino sector, which has been copping a bit of a battering of late. Crown's connection with tourism, sports tourism and high rollers is undisputed, and the powers that be at Crown do give back to society in a number of capacities, some of which is reported and other elements that are done on the quite. It was impossible to miss Warnie and Joe Hachem on Network Ten's 7PM project last month.

It's a given that when so many whales, high rollers and the like are in town, there's vast financial resources not far from felt.

The Salvation Army and Unicef are just a couple of worthy causes that Crown and the powers that be have assisted over the years.

This year sees a reported 1,143 entrants have a punt at Aussie Millions...a record for major poker tournaments in Australia.

A $1,143,000 prize pool will be split amongst the top 108 players, with first place set to collect the first Aussie Millions Gold Championship Ring over $200,000 in cash.

Numerous big names were in attendance for day one including Tony G, Clonie Gowen, Sorel Mizzi, David Saab, Jason Gray, Paul Khoury, Kenneth Damm and 2005 WSOP Champ Joe Hachem. Players who returned to the felt for a second chance included Tony Dunst , Emad Tahtouh, Billy Argyros, Lee Nelson, Josh Field, Ben Delaney, Andrew Jeffreys, Leo Boxell, Amanda De Cesare, Tino Lechich, James Akenhead and 2009 Aussie Millions Champion (and PartyPoker sponsored) Stewart Scott.

Nick Haidaris has emerged with the chip lead of 165,300. Eighty-three players remained from Day 1's starting field. Those back for Day 2 include David Saab, JP Kelly, Antonis Kambouroglou, Brendan Edmonds, Con Tsapkounis, and Jim Sachinidis.

Players not back for day 2 include Tony Dunst, 2009 Aussie Millions Main Event Champ Stewart Scott, Emad Tahtouh, Barny Boatman, Matthew Pearson, Rayan Nathan, Joe Hachem, Tony G, Lee Nelson, Billy Argyros, Jonathan Karamalikis, Michael Guzzardi, James Akenhead, Ben Delaney, and Sorel Mizzi.

Day 2 at Crown Casino kicks off at 12:30 p.m where approximately 200 players will be giving it all they have in their quest for the championship.

Media Man encourages players (and management) on a winning streak to continue to give back to society, and of course the world is aware of those less fortunate including in Haiti which was recently rocked by an earthquake. Casinos and big gaming companies have much bigger resources than most, so let's see if they can even come close to helping to the extent that they did when the Aussie Victorian bushfires hit last March.

Online Poker Sites Rally for Haiti Earthquake Victims, by Dan Cypra - 14th January 2010

The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that rocked the tiny nation of Haiti left the country in shambles and perhaps as many as 50,000 people may have perished. In response, the online poker world has come together to raise money for the natural disaster’s victims.

Full Tilt Poker has launched “Aid for Haiti” tournaments in which the site will match the rake paid and then donate it to several charities on the ground in the island nation. For Full Tilt Poker members who don’t want to hit the virtual felts in order to donate, the world’s second largest online poker site has set up “Aid for Haiti No Play” tournaments. Ten of these events are scheduled for Sunday, January 17th and Full Tilt is matching the buy-ins. No poker will actually be had in “No-Play” tournaments.

The site has also created a special user account dubbed “Aid for Haiti.” In a similar fashion as transferring funds from one player to another, those who wish to help can send money directly to the account in $5 increments or larger. Full Tilt will then match the funds raised.

PokerStars has taken a streamlined approach to fundraising. The site has selected the Red Cross as its beneficiary and, like Full Tilt Poker and others involved, is matching donations dollar for dollar. The opportunity to donate will be open through January 31st and all players need to do is open up the PokerStars client, go to “Tourney” and “Special,” and enter one of the Haiti Earthquake Relief events. None of these tournaments will actually play out. Instead, the $1 to $1,000 buy-in allows players to donate directly to the Red Cross. PokerStars members can also ship money to “Haiti Fund,” a player account set up specifically to accept donations. Go to “Requests” and “Transfer Funds” in the top menu to take advantage of this method.

Meanwhile, the Calvin Ayre Foundation, named for the founder of Bodog, has pledged £10,000 to the U.K.-based foundation Oxfam to support the cause. The internet mogul added, “I also want to challenge the rest of this industry to also contribute to Oxfam to help out in Haiti and my private foundation will match any proven payment to Oxfam by an online gaming person up to $1,000,000.” Bodog, PokerStars, and Full Tilt Poker all accept players and donations from the United States. The latter two are the largest and second largest sites in the world, respectively.

Also accepting U.S. action and promoting relief to the residents of Haiti is Cake Poker. The room has set up three special “holding tanks” totaling $5, $25, and $100. Players can register for each of them and the site, which features Lee Jones as its Card Room Manager, will match all funds raised. No cards will be dealt in these tournaments; instead, they are purely for donation purposes. The trio of “holding tanks” will be available until Midnight ET on January 31st.

Facebook poker application Zynga is donating $1 to Fonkoze, “an organization that supports families in Haiti,” for every chip package sold. Other added benefits, including a “Hearts for Haiti” gift, will be thrown into the mix.

On PocketFives.com, top-ranked online poker player David “Doc Sands” Sands announced that he was donating 10% of his Sunday profits up to $10,000 to a “disaster relief fund.” Sands called on other all-star players to do the same, with Ryan “gutshtallin” Welch, who sits at #39 in the world, agreeing to similar terms. Sunday features some of the largest online poker tournaments in the industry, including the Sunday Million on PokerStars and $750,000 Guaranteed on Full Tilt Poker.

The United States pledged $100 million in aid for Haiti. Hopefully, the online poker community can band together for this worthwhile cause.

PartyGaming News: Danske Spil chooses PartyGaming to launch online games in Denmark

11th January 2010

PartyGaming, the world’s leading listed online gaming company, today announces an exclusive, five-year agreement to provide an online gaming platform for poker and casino games in Denmark for Danske Spil A/S (‘Danske Spil’).

Controlled by the Danish Government, The Danske Spil Group is one of the largest betting and gaming organisations in Europe with DKK 10,955 million of turnover in 2008. Offering a variety of gaming products in Denmark including the national lottery, numbers games, instant games as well as gambling on machines, Danske Spil has also established a large online gaming business and already has over 500,000 registered online customers.

In 2009 the Danish Government published draft legislation for a partially liberalised gaming market in Denmark that is expected to become law in 2011. If adopted, poker and casino will be among the games subjected to open competition in the Danish market. Whilst Danske Spil has strengthened its position in a number of online gaming categories such as bingo, sports betting and casual games with strong growth in the number of players and revenues, it recognised the need to join forces with a leading online gaming company in order to achieve its potential.

Over the past seven months, Danske Spil has screened the market for providers of services and potential online partners that specialise in poker and casino games. As part of its selection criteria, Danske Spil was determined to find a supplier that matched its own high standards for product quality, security and ethical requirements. PartyGaming passed all of these pre-requisites and is set to create a new strategic alliance with Danske Spil in Denmark. It is expected that the commercial terms between both companies will be finalised within the next few weeks.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Jim Ryan, Chief Executive Officer of PartyGaming said:

“This is a landmark B2B deal for PartyGaming and validates our strategy to become a leading provider of B2B services to both corporates and governments around the world. Danske Spil is widely recognised as one of Europe’s leading gambling businesses, one that is pre-eminent in the Danish market. We are delighted that Danske Spil has recognised our expertise and high standards of business practice and we look forward to building a significant and profitable enterprise as soon as the newly regulated Danish online gaming market opens.”

H.C. Madsen, CEO at Danske Spil, said:

"With some of the world’s leading products in online poker and casino as well as a large international customer base, PartyGaming is definitely a strong business partner for Danske Spil. Combining this with Danske Spil’s unique and strong position in the Danish market with more than 500,000 Danish online customers will guarantee that together we will deliver a highly attractive customer experience to players in Denmark."

PartyPoker Wins eGaming Award - 6th January 2010

Being recognized for a whole year's worth of hard work is something that all poker rooms would like to receive, but in such a competitive market only the best can receive the top prize for each category.

The popular eGaming magazine (EGR) recently recognized the industry’s top online poker rooms and casinos with eighteen different awards. The ceremony took place in London and there were more than nine hundred people in attendance.

The best poker operator award was given to PartyPoker and a special mention was given to PKR. PartyPoker has done an outstanding job this past year in promoting great communication with their players and implementing innovative features into their poker client, as well as fixing bugs reported by their users. They have also acquired a very important poker authority, as buying the World Poker Tour Enterprises has certainly put them back on the radar and their aggressive business model will most likely make them the largest online poker room in the world in the years to come. PartyPoker also settled legal problems with the US Department of Justice which makes the industry think that they could be targeting the US market again in the near future once all the UIGEA issues are solved. PartyPoker used to be the largest online poker room in the world but they stopped taking action from US customers after the Safe Port Act was approved.

Some of the other recognitions were:

Operator of the year: Bwin

Innovation of the year: Gamesys for Jackpotjoy

Affiliate program of the year: Virgin Games

Mobile operator of the year: Probability for Ladylucks

Online marketing campaign of the year: PKR

Offline marketing campaign: Betclick

Socially responsible operator of the year: Betsson

Asian operator of the year: SBO Bet

Latin American operator of the year: Betboo

Bingo operator of the year: Cashcade for Foxy Bingo

European sports betting operator of the year: Unibet

UK sports betting operator of the year: Betfair

Casino operator of the year: 888

Poker operator of the year: PartyGaming

Financial betting operator of the year: Bet on Markets

Rising star of the year: Gaming Media Group

European live gaming operator of the year: Unibet

PokerStars Announces North American Poker Tour, by Dan Cypra - 7th January 2010

Look out, North America! Long absent poker events sponsored by PokerStars, the continent will host the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) beginning on January 20th at the Venetian, with another stop planned for Mohegan Sun.

Model Joanna Krupa, who was introduced to the PokerStars family during the fourth installment of the “PokerStars.net Million Dollar Challenge,” will serve as the NAPT’s on-screen host. A television deal is in the works and PokerStars officials have employed 411, the same company that produces the World Series of Poker (WSOP) on ESPN, to create each episode. The identity of a television partner should be released in the next two weeks.

PokerStars players from the United States and Canada currently have to hop on an airplane and travel to far away lands for PokerStars-sponsored tournaments. PokerStars-backed series include the European Poker Tour (EPT), Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT), Russian Poker Tour (RPT), Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT), Italian Poker Tour (IPT) Czech-Slovak Poker Tour (CSPT), Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT), and U.K. and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT).

At the Venetian in Las Vegas, the final tournament of the casino’s Deep Stack Extravaganza will be the $5,000 buy-in NAPT Main Event. The fun in Sin City will take place from February 20th to 24th and side events will also play out. From Las Vegas, PokerStars NAPT officials will travel 2,600 miles due east to Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. The tournament series in the popular East Coast casino will see its Main Event held from April 7th to 11th as the kickoff of a brand new poker festival.

Negreanu commented in a press release furnished by the world’s largest online poker site, “I'm really looking forward to the launch of the NAPT. PokerStars.net has done an excellent job sponsoring meaningful tournaments around the world with the EPT, LAPT, APPT, and various other local tours – and it’s exciting to see them coming to my home town of Las Vegas! With the addition of the NAPT, I'll have a chance to play some tournaments on home soil and I'm very excited about that.” 2009 WSOP Main Event champion Joe Cada and Team PokerStars Pro member Vanessa Rousso are among the bevy of site pros who are expected to turn out.

Technically, the first tournament of the NAPT was the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, which is ongoing from the Atlantis Resort and Casino across the harbor from Nassau in the Bahamas. Satellites to the Venetian and Mohegan Sun tournaments will take place on PokerStars, which happily accepts players from the United States. Besides Cada, other WSOP Main Event champions to call the site home include Chris Moneymaker (2003), Greg Raymer (2004), Joe Hachem (2005), Peter Eastgate (2008), and Tom McEvoy (1983).

In North America, the NAPT will compete against several longstanding brands such as the World Poker Tour (WPT) and WSOP Circuit. The WPT is in the midst of filming its eighth season, the first with the backing of Party Gaming, which purchased the rights to the series in October. Poker Hall of Fame member Mike Sexton and actor Vince Van Patten continue to bring the WPT to life each week on Fox Sports Net. The WSOP Circuit has been crisscrossing the United States since 2004, stopping at various Harrah’s properties along the way. Circuit staffers are now camped out in Tunica, Mississippi for the fifth stop of the 2009-2010 season. The series gets underway in the Deep South on January 20th from Harrah’s Tunica.

Krupa has graced the covers of a handful of brand-name magazines, including “FHM,” “Maxim,” “Playboy,” and “Stuff.” She appeared on Season 9 of the ABC reality series “Dancing with the Stars” and also tested her sports skills in the network’s “Superstars.” Krupa defeated 9/11 first responder Mike Kosowski on the fourth episode of the “Million Dollar Challenge;” Kosowski would later go on to defeat Negreanu and earn the $1 million grand prize.

Additional stops for Season 1 of the NAPT will also be announced. (Credit: Poker News Daily)

Kelly Rowland to Appear at PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, by Jessica Welman - 2nd January 2010

When players who have attended the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) in past years cite their favorite moments from the tournament series, at least one story tends to involve the opening night party hosted by the site. This year, PokerStars is aiming to outdo itself by hosting not one, but two seaside shindigs.

As tradition dictates, the first fiesta will take place on Monday, January 4th, the night before the $10,000 buy-in Main Event gets underway. The party will take place on the Royal Tower of the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island at 7:00pm. It is scheduled to last until 9:00pm and will feature free hors d’oeuvres and an open bar. All players taking part in the Main Event are invited to attend and can bring one guest. In past years, the party has included greetings from Team PokerStars Pro members as well as local entertainment. Last year, party guests watched as a small parade of local dancers performed along with a band.

In addition to the open-invite party on the 4th, PokerStars will be hosting a second party on the 9th. This invitation-only event will take place from 9:00pm to Midnight at Paradise Harbour. Those in attendance will see R&B singer Kelly Rowland, formerly of Destiny’s Child, perform. It will be one of Rowland’s only musical appearances in January, as her official website indicates her next performance date is not until the 23rd, when she will perform as part of the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes, France.

This is not the first time that PokerStars has teamed up with a musical star from the world of hip-hop and R&B. At the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP), rap star and poker enthusiast Nelly performed at the Las Vegas PokerStars party. In addition to being the musical guest for the site’s WSOP party, Nelly was also a mainstay at the Rio during the six-week tournament series, playing in a number of events and frequently taking part in the Amazon Room cash games. He also took part in the European Poker Tour’s (EPT) Monte Carlo Grand Final.

Nelly is one of a number of celebrities expected to make an appearance at PCA. As part of the tournament series, PokerStars is teaming up with amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, to host a charity poker tournament as part of the PCA. The event will feature a $5,250 buy-in and half of the prize pool will be given to amfAR to benefit global AIDS research. Team PokerStars Sports pros Boris Becker, Mats Sundin, and Sebastian Chabal are all also expected to attend, according to a press release from PokerStars.

Rowland and Nelly are not the only musical acts with ties to PokerStars. Team PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu and the PokerStars logo were featured in Katy Perry’s “Waking Up In Vegas” video. NBA star LeBron James also made an appearance in Drake’s “Forever” video and is prominently seen playing heads-up at the PokerStars virtual tables at the beginning of it. Even R&B songstress Rihanna has ties with the online poker room, as she plays poker with PokerStars-branded chips in her new video for “Hard,” featuring Young Jeezy.

Rowland’s appearance at PCA is just the latest incident of a musical star taking up with PokerStars, but considering the recent influx of PokerStars appearances in music videos, it certainly does not appear to be the last. (Credit: Poker News Daily)

PartyGaming remains confident - 31st December 2009

PartyGaming remains confident

Product suite remains strong: PartyCasino.com, PartyPoker.com, PartyBets.com, PartyGammon.com, PartyBingo.com, World Poker Tour

Strategic purchases and potential mergers on cards for 2010

Leading listed online gaming operator PartyGaming has stated that its revenues since the end of September are expected to be in line with its earlier predictions despite falling over the first nine months of the year.

PartyGaming owns the World Poker Tour land-based poker tournament series and operates popular online poker domain PartyPoker.com alongside leading bingo sites FoxyBingo.com, Mirror Bingo, Think Bingo and Cheeky Bingo.

The operator stated that it would release its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2009 on February 3 and expects clean full-year earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation to be ‘slightly ahead’ of its expectations.

“As indicated at the time of our third quarter key performance indicators, our business has continued to perform well across the board during the fourth quarter with a return to net revenue growth across all four of our key product verticals,” said Jim Ryan, Chief Executive Officer for the Gibraltar-based operator.

“Returning poker to growth has been a key focus for us. We are pleased to see that the initiatives introduced throughout the year are now feeding through into both operational and financial performance with increased player numbers and average net daily revenues versus the previous quarter, despite continued competition from illegal US-facing sites and the difficult macroeconomic climate.

“Our casino business has also continued to perform well on the back of new games launched on PartyCasino.com as well as higher jackpots with the most recent Mega Gold jackpot paying out close to five million dollars to the lucky winner earlier this month.

“Bingo continues to show substantial growth on the back of the CashCade acquisition in July of 2009.

“In sportsbetting, our gross win margin has benefited from a good run of sporting results and the introduction of improved risk management tools.

“Despite the challenges presented by the prevailing macroeconomic environment, we have not been distracted from the execution of our strategic plan. With the prospect of a number of new and large regulated markets in front of us, an expanding portfolio of business-to-business customers and a return to growth in our core business, we remain confident about the group’s prospects.”

PartyPoker Cash Machine Returns, Features Booster Bonus, by Dan Cypra - 29th December 2009

In January, PartyPoker, one of the world’s longstanding online poker sites, returns the popular Cash Machine promotion. This time, hardcore grinders will earn additional cash as part of a Booster Bonus.

The Cash Machine promotion last ran during the month of September and shelled out a bevy of added funds to PartyPoker players. The promotion returns on January 4th and will run through the end of the month. All players have to do is earn 10 or more PartyPoints on at least 10 days during the 28-day period. Then, PartyPoker officials will take a look at the PartyPoint totals of the 10 highest-earning days and match the lowest one at the rate of $1 per point.

As an example, if a player’s 10 highest PartyPoint total days were 100, 100, 100, 150, 150, 150, 200, 200, 200, and 200, PartyPoker would award a $100 cash bonus, matching the lowest amount. The minimum payout is $10 and there is no maximum amount that PartyPoker will match. For those players who are unable to meet the $10 minimum, a generous consolation prize exists. Text found on PartyPoker’s website explains, “If you can achieve 10 qualifying days of one PartyPoint or more, but fail to earn the minimum cash reward, we’ll give you a seat in our $25,000 Cash Machine freeroll, which takes place at 15:00 ET on Wednesday, 3rd February.”

The Cash Machine Booster Bonus is available to players who earn at least 1,000 PartyPoints per day on 20 out of the 28 days of the promotion. Players who earn between 1,000 and 1,500 PartyPoints for 20 days will earn a $500 Booster Bonus. Players who rack up between 1,500 and 2,000 PartyPoints for 20 days will get a $1,100 Booster Bonus. Players who amass between 2,000 and 2,500 PartyPoints for 20 days will take home a $2,000 Booster Bonus. Players who earn between 2,500 and 3,000 PartyPoints will receive a $3,000 Booster Bonus and those able to surpass 3,000 PartyPoints for 20 days will nab a colossal $5,000 Booster Bonus.

The Cash Machine is an opt-in promotion and players can register for it at any time prior to its conclusion. Once they opt in, PartyPoker will credit players with all PartyPoints earned during the 28 days, regardless of when they sign up. Each qualifying day runs from 00:00 ET to 23:59 ET and days do not have to be consecutive in order to count. All funds earned will be dropped into players’ accounts within 48 hours of the Cash Machine promotion ending.

One day prior to the Cash Machine promotion kicking off, the PartyPoker Monthly Million will play out. The $640 buy-in tournament takes place on the first Sunday of every month and boasts a Championship blind structure. Players begin with 20,000 chips and blinds start at 25-50. The price of poker increases every 20 minutes and antes kick in at Level 6, when blinds are 250-500.

Qualifiers for the Monthly Million run constantly on PartyPoker. Popular ways to enter include a daily Monthly Million Qualifier, a $70 buy-in satellite with at least 19 seats on the line. A Mega Friday Satellite also takes place weekly, featuring a $55 buy-in and 20 seats guaranteed. On Saturdays, two qualifiers take place on PartyPoker offering a combined 18 seats. Country-specific freerolls and daily player point qualifiers also send players to the Monthly Million. Mark your calendars for Sunday, January 3rd, the next running of the Monthly Million.

According to the traffic ranking site PokerScout.com, PartyPoker is the fourth largest site worldwide, with a seven-day running average of 4,500 real money ring game players. It is the second largest not to accept players from the United States, trailing only the massive iPoker Network.

PartyPoker claims World Poker Tour Host and new Poker Hall of Fame inductee Mike Sexton as its ambassador and is currently qualifying players for the L.A. Poker Classic. (Credit: Poker News Daily)
