Aussie Mark Webber Will Not Quit F1 Win Or Lose...

Mark Webber has squashed small talk he will quit Formula One if he wins or loses the world championship this Sunday. Webber, 34, is under a1 year contract with the mighty Red Bull and says he plans to race on in 2011 and beyond. "Yes, pretty much I'm taking on a year by year basis," Webber said. Webber strongly hinted he was looking forward to another stoush with young German teammate Sebastian Vettel, as well as proving he still had the speed to match it with the best. "The youngsters' eyes are really big when they arrive but I've been so proud of what I've done this year. "I'm not an old guy but to take Fernando (Alonso) and Lewis (Hamilton) and Seb on week-in week-out I feel proud I've been able to do that. "I've had to lift the bar up and I think next year I can still drive very well. "Timing is very important. To drive at 85-90% in this category - forget it, you need to be on top of your game." Webber advised he was confident Red Bull had not committed all their resources to this year's car and would again be competitive in 2011. "Time will tell but we've had a lot of god cars in the last two years," he said. "Last year was very, very taxing for us but the team responded for this year really well and produced another cracker. "Next year we'll find out in the next few races. There are a lot of big new changes and the pedal's going in one direction for this team. Much has been said of the tactics Red Bull will adopt in this season-ending race, but Webber said it was "too hard to call" whether Vettel should help him if in position to do so. "I think it is a question for Seb. What he does is going to be very dependent on how the race unfolds and there are so many scenarios that can happen," Webber said. "I can win this championship by finishing fifth and I can lose it by winning it (if Fernando Alonso finishes second). "Let's just see how things evolve. It actually is very, very tough to make a call at the moment and we know the team's position. "The team's position is that the gloves are off between Sebastian and I. They want us to race, which we've done all year." Webber will take an eight-point deficit into the race, trailing Alonso's Ferrari after the Spaniard took over the running when Webber spun out in Korea recently.

ACMA Rules Against Gambling Adverts On Network Nine And Ten...

Network Nine and Ten have both been found to have breached their license for running interactive gambling advertisements. The Australian Communications and Media Authority found that both networks ran several promotions for PokerStars.net, an interactive gambling service which contravenes the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (IGA). .net means that it was a play for free websites "These are the ACMA’s first investigations into advertisements prohibited under the Interactive Gambling Act," said ACMA Chairman, Chris Chapman, "All providers of television, radio and datacasting services need to ensure sure they are fully aware of and comply with their obligations under the IGA.” Network Nine ran ads for PokerStars during its Wimbledon broadcast in July 2009 while TEN ran similar ads in November 2009 in conjunction with its reality series on ONE, The Poker Star. ACMA says these are the first investigations relating to the broadcast of prohibited advertisements under the IGA. Both networks have agreed to measures intended to increase awareness of the IGA, with staff training, education and periodic reports to ACMA.

Centrebet Plans To Double Market Share...

Centrebet's 2011 financial year profit would be halved, but this news comes as the online wagering group unveiled a five-year strategic plan aimed at doubling its market share. Dubbed the "Rocket Plan", Centrebet has earmarked "tens of millions of dollars" to be invested in the five-year plan, which it is betting on to boost future profits and double its share of the Australian corporate bookmaker market to 20 per cent by the 2015 financial year. But management warned that its 2011 financial year profit would take a hit as a result of that investment and its net profit after tax would now be about $8 million, compared with $16m under a business as usual scenario. "The strategic plan is aiming to provide a step change in growth and a significant and substantial increase in earnings," Centrebet managing director and majority shareholder Con Kafataris advised.

'Big Brother' Australian government cunning plans to track pokies - one armed bandit winnings received a crappy reception up the NSW coast at Port Macquarie yesterday, where oldie punters raised serious concerns about the impact on their pensions.

Big Brother To Spy On Aussie Pensioners Pokie Wins And Losses...

Up to a million of elderly Australians playing poker machines might see their pensions cut after wins as smartcards are introduced to track oldies gambling habits. Yes, they are tracking humans, not rats. Centrelink has previously used data tracked from pensioners using swipe cards at major casinos to count wins and losses as earnings, and demanded repayment, but that's only the tip of the iceberg as to what will come experts say. Thus far Centrelink has refused to tell welfare legal services whether or not other regular gambling wins need to be declared as income, despite the Tax Office not deeming them to be. Until now, it was impossible to track one armed bandit wins. Smartcards that identify each user on a national poker machine network will be introduced from 2012, recording how much has been won and lost, under a deal struck by the federal government with the independent MP Andrew Wilkie. National Welfare Rights Network director Maree O'Halloran said: "We are very concerned that a major problem for pensioners that arose at casinos, where their gambling losses were treated by Centrelink as evidence of earnings, may start to arise in a whole lot of communities now where people gamble on poker machines and they have the new card.'' More than a dozen cases of pensioners whose gambling habit was tracked through swipe cards at casinos and were assessed to owe Centrelink money are awaiting a ruling in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. The Welfare Rights Network has now contacted South Australian senator Nick Xenophon and Mr Wilkie, saying a "biometric card" to limit gambling losses could reduce high levels of problem gambling, but also had the potential for large numbers of pensioners to be caught by unclear rules on the reporting of income, partly because pensions are means-tested. ''The Welfare Rights Centre supports methods to stop excessive gambling and we know gambling can destroy lives,'' said Ms O'Halloran. ''We are alerting the government to this issue so they can protect, and Centrelink can tell people clearly what income do they have to declare if they gamble.'' Austrac provides data gathered from banks and casinos to Centrelink. Gambling services must monitor and record customer identities and transactions, including the reporting of big payouts to Austrac, under anti-money laundering laws. An Austrac spokeswoman said pubs and clubs with poker machines were not complying with these rules, and it was already in discussions with the sector on how to improve "intelligence gathering". Ms O'Halloran said the use of the swipe card data on gambling as evidence of pensioner income was misleading. ''People sometimes win $100, and lose $400. They can do that within one day … Centrelink would see that as you had $500 worth of income,'' she said. Centrelink has told the centre it assessed gambling wins depending on each customer's individual circumstances.

World's leading listed online gaming operator PartyGaming has announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2010 showing a 9 percent year-on-year increase in total revenues to €85.3 million.

The Gibraltar-based firm operates popular online poker domains PartyPoker.com and World Poker Tour. They also own and operate leading online bingo websites Foxy Bingo, Mirror Bingo, Think Bingo and Cheeky Bingo and revealed that revenues from its casino businesses grew two percent year-on-year to reach €34.9 million.

Although revenues from poker decreased five percent when compared to the same period in 2009 to €29.6 million, PartyGaming revealed that bingo improved by 36% year-on-year to hit €13.1 million while sportsbetting grew by a massive 86% for the three-month period to reach €5.4 million.

“Total revenues were up by nine percent year-on-year with growth in all products except poker despite the impact of having closed our French casino business at the end of June,” said Jim Ryan, Chief Executive Officer for PartyGaming.

“Excluding our French casino, total revenues would have been up by 12% year-on-year driven by casino growth in other markets, acquisitions and a strong performance in sportsbetting.

“We have been encouraged by the strong start from our nascent French poker network that went live on July 1. A strong performance by PartyPoker.fr in France has been further boosted by the launch of PMU’s poker business in France as well as services for AB Groupe and Aviation Club De France.

“In respect of current trading since the end of September, we have begun to see the normal seasonal upturn in-line with the board’s expectations and we remain confident about the full-year outlook.”

The James Bond franchise has long been a favorite with the casino and poker crowd across the globe, and some experts tip that a few casino millionaires and billionaires are considering adding the famous Bond set of wheels to their private collection. Today, finally, the James Bond DB5 Aston Martin goes up for auction in London.. Media Man and Gambling911 now cross to the action with this special report...

James Bond's 1964 Aston Martin DB5, dubbed the "world's most famous car," by auctioneers, is set to go under the hammer in London and is expected to be sold for over £3 million $5 million AUD) today.

The car, which became a sensation following its appearances in the hit 1960s Bond films Goldfinger and Thunderball, is the sole remaining of the two original "007" DB5's made famous on screen with Sean Connery as the secret MI6 agent.

Wednesday's auction marks the first time the distinctive silver-coloured car has been available to the public to purchase.

Its current owner, American radio broadcasting legend Jerry Lee, bought the car from the Aston Martin Factory in 1969 for just $12,000 and it has rarely been seen in public.

The model comes complete with its "Q-Branch" gadgets including machine guns, bullet-proof shield, revolving number plates, tracking device, removable roof panel, oil slick sprayer, nail spreader and smoke screen.

Several of the gadgets are fully operational, although the machine guns are not real.

Most auctioneers were not prepared to guess how much the Aston Martin may be sold for but some whispered figures of up to $3 million pound.

The world famous Australian Casino Wars continue, and in the latest turn of events both Crown Casino and its competitor see more management and staff shuffles, with just the slightest hint of in fighting. At the same time Crown is still tipped to suffer industrial strike action. Media Man and Gambling911 once again report from the front line of the Australian casino wars...

Crown Casino top brass - Operations Head David Courtney has been confirmed as loosing his position after a company restructure of management to help combat expenses.

The pride of James Packer owned Crown Limited issued a press statement this past Friday advising that Crown Casino would now be overseen by the current Crown Limited chief executive Rowen Craigie, who will now combine the two roles.

"The stand alone position of chief executive officer of Crown Melbourne, previously held by David Courtney, has now ceased to exist," the document said.

"The restructure is part of Crown's ongoing strategy to reduce overheads and confirms the group's focus on its Australian and Macau businesses."

It went on to say the new management structure was similar to that which existed in the gaming division of TV and print company, Publishing and Broadcasting Limited, prior to its demerger in December 2007. P&B was the pride and joy of the late, great, Kerry Packer, Australia's original "super whale" and king of the high rollers in Australia.

The company statement publicly thanked Courtney for his contribution in the role he has held since 2007.

Crown Limited said Courtney had taken a period of leave and was in discussions regarding his future with the company.

Courtney is understood to be well liked and respected at Crown as well as across the larger Australian gambling and gaming industry. Media Man and Gambling911 wish him continued success.

American Wiseguys; Australian Wiseguys Uprising?, by Greg Tingle - 5th October 2010

Wiseguy hey? What is a wiseguy? The United States has them... heard of 'The Mob'? So does Italy. The casino and larger gambling industry is understood to be home to a few "wiseguys", some recently busted lurking in the entertainment - ticketing sector, and now speculation rises as to who may be a wiseguy down under in Australia. Media Man and Gambling911 load up the Cadillac, shovels, knock squad and navigate the odd horses' head with this special 'Wiseguys" report...

American Wiseguys online ticketing scheme...

Legal eagles for a foursome of Americans accused of illegally purchasing more than 1 million concert tickets online, then going on to sell them for a massive $30 million profit, are seeking to have the case thrown out of court.

The four Californian natives are charged with the serious offences of conspiracy and fraud.

They are accused of bypassing safeguards meant to restrict the number of tickets each customer can buy.

The US government alleges their company... wait for it...Wiseguy Tickets, resold the tickets for $30 million in estimated profit.

According to a 43-count indictment unsealed in March of this year, the foursome used a nationwide network of computers to flood websites such as Ticketmaster and Major League Baseball and even developed a computer program that could automatically get past web pages that require purchasers to manually type in sample words before they can proceed. Cleaver cookies hey.

The quad squad focused on highly coveted premium tickets to high-profile events such as concerts by Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews and Hannah Montana and sporting events such as the baseball playoffs, the 2009 Sugar Bowl and the 2007 BCS college football championship game, federal authorities have gone on record with.

The case is being prosecuted in New Jersey as many of the live events were held at Giants Stadium, Izod Centre and Prudential Centre; others were spread across the United States at venues in New York City, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Tampa, Florida, according to the indictment.

Kenneth Lowson, Kristofer Kirsch and Faisal Nahdi, all of LA, and Joel Stevenson, of Alameda, California, face charges that include conspiracy, wire fraud and unauthorised computer access.

The wire fraud counts are the most serious and carry a maximum prison sentence of 20 years per count upon conviction.

Lowson, Kirsch and Stevenson have been freed on bail since their arrests, while Nahdi is a fugitive and is believed to be abroad... on the run, as they say.

Mark Rush, a lawyer for Lowson, argued in federal court on Monday that the foursome might have violated websites' terms of service - use, but are not liable under existing federal law.

Federal prosecutors sought to play down the unusual nature of the men's alleged crimes.

"We see cases like this in federal court all the time," Assistant US Attorney Erez Lieberman said during a motion hearing before US District Judge Katherine Hayden.

Lieberman said the defendants "lied, lied and lied some more" when they purchased tickets using hundreds of fake internet domain names and created a method of bypassing safeguards meant to limit the number of tickets available to individual buyers.

"Each and every step of the way it was a traditional fraud," Lieberman said.

The judge heard arguments on the defence's motion to dismiss the indictment on the grounds that federal law does not cover what Rush said were merely violations of the terms of use on internet sites including Ticketmaster.

Rush argued that while the defendants' actions might be deemed unsavoury to say the least, they did not rise to the level of criminal activity but should more appropriately be taken up as a civil matter.

"This isn't Ticketmaster versus Wiseguy, but perhaps it should be. But it shouldn't be the United States of America versus Wiseguy. Congress has not criminalised ticket brokers or ticket scalpers. What if they hired 100,000 people to all get on the site at the same time? Would we be here?" Rush asked.

"Or was it because it was a computer? If we are struggling to figure out if this is a violation of federal criminal law, then the indictment should be dismissed."

Crown Limited top dog Rowen Craigie has been thanked for returning Crown to profitability, with his salary rising to more than $7 million big ones. The company's annual report clearly demonstrates Craigie's total paypacket jumped 15%, bolstered by a $1m short-term incentive bonus. He and the head honcho of Crown's Melbourne operations, David Courtney, were awarded 100% of their potential short-term bonuses. Courtney's overall salary rose from $2.7m to $2.9m. The James Packer-backed casino and hotel firm increased the salaries of most of its key managers after posting a $292.3m profit for the year ended June 30, up from its previous $1.1 billion loss. The company's share price during the same period rose from $7.11 to $7.77 and is now trading at roughly $8.39. After its US-based investments suffered greatly as a result of the global credit crunch and subsequent financial crisis, Crown made clear its intention to focus on its Australian operations, and its own bet has paid off and shareholders such as Media Man are delighted. Crown plans to spend $790m during the next 3 years targeting the growing VIP market, upgrading its casinos in Melbourne and Perth, including building new private games suites. But Prime Minister Julia Gillard says the system, suggested by Senator "Mr X" Nick Xenophon, is just one option to enforce mandatory pre-commitment limits. "We'll be looking at the whole range of technology that could be used to meet the same pre-commitment," she told the press. "The Productivity Commission (inquiry into problem gambling) did not define which technology to use. That has to be the subject of inquiry and discussion." Gillard has promised to take action on problem gambling by 2014 in a deal struck with the anti-pokies campaigner, independent MP Andrew Wilkie. Wilkie and Senator Xenophon have been appointed to a parliamentary committee to work out the best course. The options include smartcards to police daily limits for individuals and a USB stick bearing a gambler's fingerprints, also with a daily limit. The clubs sector is concerned the fingerprint option may give rise to a government-controlled database of pokie players. Senator Xenophon has dismissed that suggestion, describing it as "a beat-up even boxer Mike Tyson would be proud of". Australian And Canadian Gambling Crimes Set For Slap On Wrist By Law...

A United States judge's decision to sentence a Canadian internet gambling tsar to home detention raises the prospect accused Aussie fraudster Daniel Tzvetkoff will also receive a slap on the wrist and dodge a long stint in an American prison. Douglas Rennick, a 35-year-old man from British Columbia, faced 55 years in a US federal prison, but his punishment will be 6 months at his sister's home in the San Diego, after prosecutors scrubbed the most serious charges in a plea deal. "The defendant will remain at his sister's place of residence," US District Judge Sidney Stein ordered at Rennick's sentencing in New York on September 15. The case against Rennick mirrors the one against 27-year-old Tzvetkoff, who just a few years ago held the crown as one of Queensland's most successful young businessmen with an estimated personal fortune of more than $A80 million. Tzvetkoff has been facing 75 years in prison, but it appears he has struck a plea deal with prosecutors, who are based out of the same Southern District of New York office as Rennick's prosecutors. US authorities accused Rennick and Tzvetkoff of creating separate schemes for gambling companies to process extraordinary amounts of illegal gambling money into the US. Rennick's scheme allegedly involved $US300 million. Tzvetkoff is accused of dreaming up aka devising a money laundering scheme that illegally processed more than $US500 million in transactions. While US prosecutors initially took tough stances against Rennick when he was arrested last year and Tzvetkoff when the Australian was arrested at a Las Vegas casino on April 16, the treatment of both soft.
Rennick eventually entered a guilty plea to a relatively minor transmission of wagering charge, a long way off from the original conspiracy to commit money laundering and bank fraud charges that carried hefty jail sentences and were dropped. Speculation is mounting Tzvetkoff has turned into an informant, is working with prosecutors and could have his bank fraud and money laundering charges replaced by a minor charge. Prosecutors and Tzvetkoff's American lawyer, Robert Goldstein, have declined to comment on the status of the case. Prosecutors originally aggressively fought at bail hearings to keep Tzvetkoff in jail, but in a big about face shrouded in secrecy, Tzvetkoff was released on bail in August and his whereabouts are currently unknown. Public court records do not show a bail hearing taking place, adding to speculation a plea deal will be, or has been done and he is being held in a safe house. Gold Coast Minister of Parliament Ray 'Sure Thing' (Media Man tag) Stevens has rocketed the Bligh Government, strongly urging it to get right behind Tabcorp's planned $300 million revamp and expansion of Jupiter's Hotel and Casino to surge the city's roller coaster like construction industry.

Could be this a bit of real life Underbelly at play? As usual, only part of the real story will make the news, with only some Chinese whispers and 'dark side' x factor seeing the light of day. Tabcorp is seriously considering spending up to $600 million on Jupiters and Brisbane's Treasury casino but the amount it throws around gets down to securing permission to buy the rights to machines the Government has taken back, or otherwise be able to purchase existing one armed bandits and licences from pubs and clubs in Queensland.

If the extra licences were not not in fact granted, for whatever reason, Tabcorp most likely would downgrade its total spend to a modest $150 million. "Yes, there is community sentiment that enough is enough in the growth of slot machines throughout Queensland. WPT Legends of Poker Attracts 462 Players - 22nd August 2010

After its buy-in was slashed from $10,000 to $5,000, the 2010 installment of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Legends of Poker attracted 462 players. Last year, a total of 279 entered, meaning that the field grew by 66%. However, the total prize pool of the marquee WPT event dipped from $2.63 million to $2.15 million, a fall of 18%.

The top 45 poker players will finish in the money, with the top spot scheduled to pay out $750,000. Last year, poker rapper Prahlad Friedman banked a little over $1 million after besting World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event November Niner Kevin Schaffel heads-up. Todd Terry, Toto Leonidas, Sam “KingKobeMVP” Stein, and Mike Krescanko also made the final table in 2009.

Nearly 300 players – including 16 former WPT champs – took to the felts on Saturday for the second of two starting days in the Legends of Poker, which emanates from the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles. The day began with WPT officials honoring Kathy Liebert, who was playing in her 100th WPT tournament. According to the WPT’s website, Liebert is the female record-holder for most final tables made with six, most cashes logged with 15, and most money won with $1.75 million. However, she lacks a WPT title.

Despite the fanfare, Liebert was eliminated late in the day, as was Lock Poker’s Matt “All In At 420” Stout. The internet player dropped his stack with A-J of diamonds against Shawn Buchanan’s pocket sevens to hit the rails. UB.com pro Phil Hellmuth, meanwhile, took a three-hour dinner break on Saturday and returned to chat it up with fans rather than play cards. He finished the day with a stack of 66,850, or 167 big blinds, good for the 50th largest tally in the room entering Day 2.

PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu lodged a particularly memorable Day 1B. Negreanu dropped to 10,000 in chips after running into a royal flush and eventually hit the rails after his A-J fell to 8-2. On the latter hand, the flop came A-2-3, giving his opponent bottom pair, but another deuce on the turn and an eight on the river didn’t help matters.

Joe Sebok and stepfather Barry Greenstein have both made waves in the WPT Legends of Poker, entering Day 2 in 17th and 19th places, respectively. Also vaulting up the leaderboard on Saturday was Allen Cunningham, who tripled up to 90,000 after cracking pocket aces and pocket kings by flopping a boat. Cunningham candidly Tweeted following the monster pot, “Holy Macintosh, I just flopped a full house vs AA and KK to triple from 30K to 90K.”

Australian Gambling Entrepreneur Daniel Tzvetkoff Bailed From Jail, by Greg Tingle - 14th September 2010

The Australian gambling, gaming and casino sector remains on red alert with the release from jail of Aussie gambling and technology sector tycoon, Daniel 'Transactions' (Media Man tag) Tzvetkoff. Media Man and Gambling911 continue to keep you informed with the news you need to know...

The once ultra successful Australian gambling and tech tycoon Daniel Tzvetkoff has been released on bail from a New York remand centre in a deal those close are calling "secret".

The whiz kid wunderkind Gold Coast entrepreneur was freed post closed hearing before a federal magistrate.

Rupert Murdoch's News Limited papers learned he entered a plea deal to a serious criminal charge back on on 23rd August. Time flies when your having fun - not.

The ugly details do not appear on official public records, which could very well suggest he is co-operating with prosecutors who are enjoying their "crackdown" on "illegal online gambling".

Specialist legal eagles have been busy in and around the sector for a number of years with clients including names such as PartyGaming, Virgin Games, PokerStars, World Poker Tour, Harrah's Entertainment, Station Casinos, Full Tilt Poker, 888 and even Media Man.

The now bankrupt Tzvetkoff, who once amassed a $82 million or so fortune, had been charged with money laundering, conspiracy to launder, fraud and conspiracy to defraud. No readers, no murder or manslaughter chargers. We're just checking if your still awake and with us on this.

The numerous charges relate to more than half a billion dollars worth of "transactions" he processed from allegedly illegal online gaming sites in the US. The rumour mill says those sites include PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, with some suggestion Bodog may be linked into the Pandora's box. On the other hand, world's leading igaming company, PartyGaming, came to terms with the United States Department of Justice in a multi million dollar deal, and is currently looking to re enter the lucrative U.S market.

The 27-year-old was known to be quite the showoff - look at me type, with fancy and loud cars, boats, waterfront mansion at Surfers' Paradise, an interest in motorsport and all sorts of other big boys toys.

His fiancee had a child in Australia, which Daniel was not able to watch mature, due to his incarceration.

Tzvetkoff was arrested in down town Las Vegas back in April, thanks to a tip off from pissed off folks owned big money, and later denied bail by a New York federal judge who thought he had hidden lots of moolah to finance an escape from the US once free. Sort of like 'Catch Me If You Can', but in real life.

The US Bureau of Prisons advised he was no longer locked up and probation officials confirmed he had been bailed leading up to his trial, which is scheduled for June next year. The trail will be must watch material for anyone who has an interest in the igaming, gambling or larger technology sector.

"He was released on bail on that date (August 23)," said a spokesman, though the US Department of Justice would not confirm the development.

Tzvetkoff's bail terms are likely to involve GPS monitoring and house arrest, restrictions his lawyers suggested in his prior bail application. He likely has an unwanted anklet - chain around his ankle, and if not there, wrist or neck.

The once wunderkind who used to fly by private jet... understood without alerting US Customs officials as required by law...is also extremely likely to have forfeited his passport.

The US Attorney's Office is cracking down on some online gaming firms in the US, but appears to be picking its targets strategically.

In other legal news, Canadian Douglas 'Rip Off' (MM tag) Rennick, of Vancouver, is to be sentenced this month for assisting illegal gaming operations by moving $US350 million ($375 million) into the US from gambling hub Cyprus.

UK's BetonSports chief David Carruthers was arrested as he tried to leave the US for Costa Rica in 2006. Yep, his winning streak came to an abrupt halt. He was locked up for 33 months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to violate anti-racketeering laws.

At the time of publication Tzvetkoff's lawyer had not return calls.

Tzvetkoff's apprenticeship in the tech sector included processing large amounts of money via transactions that were riding off the back of the lucrative porn industry.
